St. Francis Xavier School differentiates itself from other schools based on its philosophy of creating all-rounded personalities rather than churning out lopsided academicians.
The objective of every educational institution is not only to sharpen young minds but also to create future citizens of the country who have a deep sense of respect, regard, and responsibility toward their great nation and society. Our objective is to ensure that our students should not only be able to solve the toughest physics numerical problems but also lead from the front to form an opinion on varied issues ranging from global warming, the politics of our country, its economy, or for that matter on Bollywood.
We aim to nurture young minds and see them grow into dynamic adults who will be at ease once they leave the protected walls of this school and enter the uncharted world outside its periphery which is so different from the textbooks they read.
The school is co-educational with English as a medium of instruction. The normal entry point is in Class I at the age of 5 +. Pupils are prepared to take the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE –Class X) and later, the Indian School Certificate (ISC- Class XII) Examinations. Located in the heart of the city, the modern infrastructure of the institution aids in establishing an ideal ambience for its pupils’ intellectual, spiritual, and physical growth.
The year was 1982. Education at the foundation level was by and large, scattered and disorganized. Schooling of kids was largely in the hands of private tutors who often lacked the appropriate skills and experience and their motive was centered only around monetary gains. This scenario drew the attention of Mrs. Sheela Chopra, a housewife with a supporting husband being a Merchant Navy officer wherein she was herself armed with a Master’s degree. Teaching was her passion and she was engaged in educating the kids of the vicinity who came from families being much concerned with the academics of their wards. She recognized the agony of the parents looking for appropriate education for the young ones, who had the capacity to pay and, at the same time, wanted administrative convenience and an organized & structured environment of education. A long–term plan germinated in Mrs. Sheela Chopra’s mind, with a dream to establish a model and progressive school, meeting the aspirations of the society, particularly the residents of Salt Lake City the dream city of the great visionary Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy.
A concrete, though small beginning was made but the growth was rapid which later culminated in a scenario where even the four hired premises were not enough to accommodate the students whose number kept swelling. Sensing the need for a larger area our Founder Principal approached the Education Department and allied Ministries of the Government of West Bengal who were gracious enough to allot the piece of land where St. Francis Xavier School is presently housed.
To evolve young minds into responsible citizens who can overcome hurdles of a global society while staying rooted to their intrinsic traditional values.
To ultimately shape up as a center of education imparting excellence at all levels while simultaneously stressing upon mental, spiritual, and physical development.
The end objective is to create caring, responsible, and dynamic global citizens of tomorrow who are committed to the development of the nation.
Unlike the conventional approach that is frequently used, where the kids are merely passive users of knowledge, St. Francis Xavier School strives to give the students the chance to explore, reflect, communicate, and have real-world experiences.
Our strategy is based on the CISCE-mandated curriculum, which has been adjusted to reflect the modifications recommended by the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). Our school’s updated curriculum is a wonderful fusion of the most sophisticated techniques and excellent practices of the CISCE and the most well-liked and widely used methodology of the Central Government schools using the CBSE curriculum.
We are moving towards adopting Experiential Learning approachprescribed by the NEP 2020 which involves:
